Didcot based GWR Saint 2999 'Lady of Legend' starred at the ESR's 50th gala over the weekend of 16/17 March 2024. The 4-6-0 , a rarity at Cranmore, complemented the homefleet of 46447, 4110 and fellow Lady, 1719 'Lady Nan'. The event was a roaring success by all accounts. This video is from Sunday 17th.

Former Kings Cross Top Shed shedmaster, Peter Townend, had his ashes scattered on former Top Shed A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' on 2 March 2024. The ashes were placed in the firebox as the loco left Gasworks Tunnel into Belle Isle, adjacent to the former 'Top Shed' and is marked by a blast on the famous A4 chime. Trips 4 and 5/5 to Bath this Christmas featured a rare return of GW motive power to the Bath and Bristol area in the form of Tyseley Castle 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe'. Braunton's second trip of the week to Somerset comes on the first of December. The pacific is seen on the outskirts of Trowbridge and at Avoncliff. A final shot at Andover from the 28th is also included at the end.

Great shots, and it was good to see the unassisted climb to Upton Scudamore . We saw both trains at Trowbridge station in the evening - they both put on a good show.
Yes, seeing how heavy the train was at Dundas in the morning there was a touch of apprehension if conditions were against for US, this was misplaced!! Glad you got a good show.

Peter would have loved this as I do. I could not think of anything more appropriate unless i5. I was Scotsman. The reason I say Scotsman because it has the German smoke deflectors, which was his brainchild for the A3s.
@@bob-sb2zu Yes, despite prolific railway writer OS Nock saying that KJ Cook was the one who arranged for the Kylchap exhaust to be fitted to the Pacifics! It was an eye opener when I read Peter Townend's books. Of course Gresley fitted the Kylchap to the P2s built from 1934 and then some of the A4s from 1938 but strangely not all of them. The only CME who fitted the Kylchap to all his Pacifics was Edward Thompson.
What a lovely tribute despite the restricted view from this location these days. I bought his fascinating Top Shed book many years ago.
